It has been quite some time since we have announced a new faculty member in CICS, but we are excited to share the Dr. Faisal Kalota was worth the wait! Joining the faculty this summer, Faisal (ˈfesəl) Kolota brings a wealth of professional and academic experiences, a must for the CICS formula to be successful for our students.
Dr. Kalota brings a robust professional background with over 15 years of progressive industry experience in Embedded Systems, IT Strategy & Planning, Project Management, and Instructional Systems. With a B.S. and an M.S. in Computer Science from Northeastern Illinois University, Dr. Kalota also earned an Ed. D in Instructional Technology as well as an M.S. in Educational Research and Eval from Northern Illinois University. Dr. Kalota has an extensive publishing and academic presentation resume as well; with conference presentations in the US and internationally. He lists his research interests as: Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science Education (CSE), Analytics, and Project Management.
In terms of his CICS experience, Dr. Kalota is already part of the team teaching both online and on campus this summer. James Womack said of Dr. Kalota: “Dr. Kalota is an excellent professor who has worked hard to quickly integrate himself into our diverse program while bringing his own style. He does discussion based and hands on approach that makes what would otherwise be a dull class, entertaining and informative. He is very engaged with the students and seems to not only care about teaching us but learning from us and helping the whole program grow. He is a wonderful addition to the outstanding CICS community“.
From Todd Watts: “Dr. Kalota’s use of discussion questions in the classroom has allowed me to learn new perspective from my colleagues and given me the opportunity to further develop my professional speaking abilities.” An online student commented “There is no way to know that Dr. Kalota hasn’t been with CICS for years the way he interacts and engaged with us online“. That’s high praise coming from the ones that matter most, our students.
Welcome, Faisal, to the CICS family, we are so happy that you are here!
